Last week’s live art event was an all-round triumph. The day was warm and the rain stayed clear as local artists Aroe, Gary, Rebus and Radios worked their magic on the i360 hoardings.
The residents of Brighton and Hove turned out to see the show and ask a whole host of questions. Aroe led the event – making time to chat with everyone from press to passers-by.
The four found themselves working well into the evening to get their work finished, but there were no complaints as fine weather and the beautiful beach backdrop made for perfect conditions.
Each of the artists brought their own taste and style to their art. If you’re new to graffiti then it can be a little hard to read. Now’s the time to get some practice!
The first three pieces are built around the artist’s name, so you shouldn’t have much trouble deciphering them.

While Aroe, Rebus and Radio chose to paint a piece based on their own name, Gary opted for a historical approach. History buffs amongst you will recognise the word Bristelmestune. Brighton is listed under this name in the Doomsday book. This was the name that eventually became Brighthelmstone – and then Brighton. Gary’s piece at the i360 site creates one more link between the city’s past and future.
If the live art event has you eager for more then you won’t have to wait long. Aroe returns later this Autumn with a team of graffiti artists recruited from across Europe. Together they’ll produce a unique piece to further ‘Brighton up’ our seafront hoardings. As it stands the date is TBC. But as soon as we know, you’ll know.
