Schools

Move the classroom to the skies with a school trip to British Airways i360, the world’s tallest moving observation tower and the world’s first vertical cable car!

Inspire blue sky thinking

Gliding up gently to an elevation of 138 metres (450 feet) the futuristic glass pod will take your students on a voyage of innovation and discovery where they will be inspired by what is possible when they challenge the status quo and aim high.

British Airways i360, conceived and designed by Marks Barfield Architects, is a remarkable feat of architectural design where up to 200 visitors can admire panoramic 360o views of the beautiful South Coast. On the clearest days guests can see all the way east to Beachy Head (17 miles) and west to the Isle of Wight (49 miles), across the UNESCO World Biosphere, South Downs National Park, the English Channel and Regency Brighton & Hove.

Schools are offered a unique opportunity to engage school children with pioneering engineering and cutting edge design that places British Airways i360 at the forefront of British architecture.

Brighton & Hove schools

After giving out 39,000 free British Airways i360 tickets to all Brighton & Hove state school students (2016/17 school year) we are pleased to announce that we will be giving a free ticket to incoming Reception Class students attending a Brighton & Hove state school during the 2017/18 school year. Details to follow in the 2017 Autumn school term.

The tickets will be sent directly to the schools, allowing the schools to decide whether to use them for school trips or to give them to their students to use in their own time.

The vouchers must be exchanged for tickets at the British Airways i360 ticket office on Kings Road. They cannot be redeemed for bookings on special event flights such as Santa Flights.

About your visit

You can find us located at the heart of Brighton beach, at the site of the historic West Pier.

The expected dwell time for school groups is around an hour. Flights depart every 30 minutes and the flight lasts around 25 minutes (including boarding and disembarking). We ask groups to arrive at least 30 minutes before your flight time in order to pass through security.

The British Airways i360 app is available to download with fascinating facts about the attraction (available in multiple languages).

When exiting from the pod the students will enter the British Airways i360 shop where there will be pocket money souvenirs available, with many gifts created by local artists.

Food and drink is available in the West Beach Bar & Kitchen as well as the West Pier Tea Room, housed in a reconstructed West Pier tollbooth. Please note we do not have any picnic facilities but picnics can be eaten on the beach.

On site facilities include toilets and a first aid room.

As well as discovering one of Brighton’s latest additions to the seafront, why not visit Heritage Learning Brighton & Hove for details of other venues offering educational visits in the city.

Free school resources

As part of our dedication to innovation and education, we are creating curriculum based activity sheets for your day trip as well as further classroom-based worksheets that will extend the learning around your visit to British Airways i360. We are working closely with teachers across Brighton & Hove to make sure they are full of activities, experiments and information that teachers can use to support their classroom activities. The worksheets engage skills within the subjects of Maths, Science, Geography and Art, Design and Technology.

School visits at British Airways i360 will help students recognise how STEM subjects can translate into different careers and result in amazing structures and projects.

Our KS1 and KS2 workshops will include activities for both on-site learning on the boarding deck and during your flight, as well as classroom based activities that have a range of supporting materials and resources that you can link to or print out to support learning.

Our KS3 and KS4 curriculum supported workbook focuses on understanding the design and engineering challenges in construction and the principle of the vertical cable car, encouraging students to think like an engineer.

These worksheets will be available to download soon.
