British Airways i360 Viewing Tower is delighted to announce the winners of our Christmas Design Competition as Ruby Bongers and Rebecca Whiteing, Art Foundation students from Greater Brighton Metropolitan College (MET)!

Launched back in September, the competition tasked design students from the University of Brighton and Greater Brighton MET to design a decorative Christmas display with its foundation in sustainability, onboard the BAi360 viewing pod for the festive period.

Working to a strict brief, with time and budget constraints, we were delighted to receive over 20 applications making it challenging to choose a winner. However, the winning design concept had sustainability at its core, seeing the BA i360 pod be transformed into a giant magical snow globe!

Using LED lighting, baubles made from recycled yogurt pots and environmentally friendly PVC free, plasticizers free and 100% free of chlorine vinyl, the focal point of the snow globe will include the city’s distinctive landmarks and iconic Brighton skyline.

The panel of judges, including celebrity judge Oliver Heath, an industry recognised expert in the field of sustainable architecture and interior design, praised Ruby and Rebecca’s energy and enthusiasm, saying their proposal ‘was visionary, especially from designers at the start of their creative lives’.

The girls are now busy sourcing all the materials required to install the decorations ready for an unveiling on Thursday 28th November and our first Santa Flight on Saturday 30th November!

Rebecca Whiteing says: “We have been working on the design for over three months, so we are absolutely ecstatic to win! Winning the competition will be a great steppingstone in our quest to be designers. We are very fortunate for the opportunity we have been given and are excited to put the design together and see our vision come to life.”

From all of us at the British Airways i360, we would like to thank all the applicants for taking the time to enter our competition and congratulate Ruby and Rebecca on their win! We can’t wait to see the unveiling of the snow globe, creating a magical Christmas experience for all our visitors this festive period.
